And host Alan, 44, couldn’t resist making a cheeky jibe at the Duchess of Sussex’s expense when he heard one of the non-celeb contestant’s nicknames.

The player, who was teamed with Chris, admitted she was a huge darts fan before the comic asked for her second moniker.

She proudly replied: “Queen of the Palace.”

Without missing a beat, Alan hit back: “I think that’s the nickname Meghan had her heart set on!”

The contestant said her nickname was ‘Queen of the Palace’

In a second blow, he raised his eyebrows and joked: “And look how that turned out…”

The player and her celeb teammate laughed at the risqué joke, with viewers at home flocking to social media to share their own reaction.

Fans were divided by the jibe, with some accusing the comic of going “too far”, while others found it hilarious.

One wrote: “Alan Carr is one quick man with that Meghan Markle jibe. Genius man.”

The comment divided viewers

Another asked: “For the love of God why is Alan Carr bashing Meghan Markle before 9PM?”

A third fumed: “Alan Carr is a funny man, there’s no denying that. But he’s gone too far with that Meghan Markle comment after all that she’s come to reveal recently.”

One more argued: “That Meghan reference was class, so bloody true.”

Meghan and Harry divided the nation when they took part in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March.

Harry and Meghan’s Oprah chat sparked shockwaves in March

They made a series of shock claims in the bombshell chat, with Meghan admitting to having suicidal thoughts, and claiming that a member of the royal family had made racist remarks about their unborn son, Archie.

The interview came after the couple quit their role as working royals and moved to California, with Harry returning to the UK last month for his grandfather Prince Philip’s funeral.

Meghan remained in the US for the sad occasion, as she is heavily pregnant with her and Harry’s second child, a baby girl due this summer.

Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow continues Saturday nights at 7.30pm on ITV.
