But he finds a new job next week

Alfie was recruited to join The Vic staff and helped Linda Carter run the pub following her husband Mick’s shocking disappearance at sea.

The landlady was grieving but Alfie became a great source of support and comfort for her – until her mother Elaine made her way back to Walford.

A powerhouse of a landlady with many years of experience, Elaine took over The Queen Victoria after Linda sold her Mick’s share of the pub.

The plan was for both women to run business together but Elaine threw a spanner in the works when she was followed back to the Square by her new partner George Knight and his two daughters Anna and Gina.

Determined to help her beau settle in, Elaine made the harsh decision to sack Alfie despite Linda’s lack of trust in George.

Since then, Alfie has been struggling to change his situation.

But luck is finally on his side next week as he finally finds a job in Walford.

Coming up on BBC One, Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier) tries to encourage dejected Alfie to use the power of positive thinking to turn his work fortunes around.

After getting turned down repeatedly by Walford employers, Alfie is thrilled to learn he’ll be working at the bookies as their first choice of candidate failed to show up.

Unfortunately, he quickly gets on the wrong side of his new boss Olga on his first day.

The schemer tries to find a way to turn things around and hatches a plan with the help of Freddie and Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker).

Alfie impresses Olga by telling both of his pals to stage a mock fight – but could she figure out it’s all a ploy?

Will Alfie’s new job be a positive experience?

EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
