DANNY Dyer has quit EastEnders after almost nine years as Mick Carter – and is rumoured to have been poached by Sky.
The 44-year-old will leave the BBC1 soap later this year and will reportedly star in a new drama for a six-figure deal.
And it seems the signs all pointed to his exit, from other projects to his fellow stars walking out…
Sorted with the Dyers
In October 2020 Danny and his eldest daughter Dani, 25, launched their hugely successful podcast Sorted with the Dyers, in which they give sometimes hilarious advice to listeners who write in with their problems.
Ahead of it’s launch, Danny said of the podcast: “It’s going to be me and Dani talking about life and tackling some issues.
“What are podcasts about really? People talking b******s. We talk about us, we talk about our father and daughter bond, we talk about climate change and stuff that people are talking about in the media.”
The proud dad couldn’t speak highly enough of his daughter, adding: “I just love my baby and it’s really great to be working with her.”
And with the podcast only getting more popular, Danny may have to free up some more time to spend on it.
Presenting
When he’s not starring as Queen Vic landlord Mick, Danny hosts BBC1 gameshow The Wall.
Danny’s presenting on the show has been highly praised and one publication went as far as to say it’s turned him into a national icon.
It’s yet to be confirmed whether or not Danny will continue to present the programme after his move to Sky.
But it seems there will be plenty of opportunities for most hosting either way.
Other stars walking out
Danny is just one in a long list of big names who have quit EastEnders in the last year.
Laila Morse, who plays Big Mo, revealed she left in April and has ruled out a full-time return.
She said: “If they wanted me to go back for a one-off thing or a storyline lasting a couple of weeks I would, but I wouldn’t go back full-time.”
I’m a Celebrity star Adam Woodyatt, aka Ian Beale, revealed during his time in the castle that there have been no discussions about his return.
Max Branning actor Jake Wood departed in February 2021 after 15 years on the programme.
Strictly Come Dancing star Maisie Smith revealed in October she had quit the soap and filmed her final scenes.
So could Danny have been inspired by his colleagues?
