Almost £200,000 raised for Alzheimer’s research in Dame Barbara Windsor’s name since she died

ALMOST £200,000 has been raised in Dame Barbara Windsor’s name in the 12 months since she died, The Celeb Report on Sunday can reveal.

A JustGiving page set up in her memory continues to bring in cash for Alzheimer’s Research.

Almost £200,000 has been raised in Dame Barbara Windsor’s name in the 12 months since she died, The Celeb Report on Sunday can reveal.

The EastEnders star died, aged 83, in December 2020. Many of those donating were inspired at how the actress bravely spoke about her dementia during her final months.

Babs’ widower Scott Mitchell also helped raise £40,000 for dementia research by running this year’s London Marathon.

Another £10,000 was also raised by auctioning off an iconic bikini Barbara wore in hit comedy caper Carry on Camping. The yellow two-piece, which famously flung off during a scene of the 1969 film, had been rescued from a bin.

Tim Parry, of Alzheimer’s Research, said: “Dame Barbara and Scott helped shine a light on the potential of research to change the lives of everyone with dementia.”

Following Barbara’s death Scott was appointed an Ambassador of Alzheimer’s Research UK.

The 58-year-old later said he was “honoured” to accept the role as it allowed him to keep up his wife’s legacy.
