Streaming platform revamps movies section, sparking backlash from subscribers
Amazon Prime Video has come under fire from its viewers after making a significant update to its movies section. The streaming service, known for offering a mix of original content and movies from other studios, has now prominently featured movies available for rent or purchase, while relegating free options to a smaller section at the top. This change has left many subscribers frustrated and some even considering cancelling their subscriptions.
Ads and extra charges for upcoming films add to the fury
In addition to rearranging the movies section, Amazon Prime Video has also started advertising films that will soon be available on the platform, but at an extra cost. This includes highly anticipated movies like Martin Scorsese's "Killers Of The Flower Moon." Furthermore, some movies on the platform are now interspersed with ads, much to the annoyance of fans.
Subscribers take to social media to express their anger
Film enthusiasts have taken to social media in droves to voice their frustration with the changes. Many have questioned why they are paying a subscription fee if they are still being bombarded with ads or forced to pay extra for certain films. One disgruntled viewer tweeted, "@amazon @PrimeVideo I don't know why you offer movies with ads. We purposely pay for streaming, so we don't have to watch ads." Another user wrote, "@PrimeVideo why the hell you have moved all the movies to the renting section? What's the use of purchasing Prime subscription??"
Amazon responds, citing rights and wider selection for paying subscribers
In response to the backlash, Amazon Prime Video defended their decision, explaining that they are unable to offer all movies for free due to deals with studios. They acknowledged the frustration of subscribers but emphasized that paying members have access to a wider selection of films, including those not available as part of the Prime membership. They also mentioned that paying subscribers get early access to certain movies before they become available to other Prime members.
While some viewers may appreciate the wider selection and early access, it remains to be seen whether Amazon Prime Video will address the concerns raised by its outraged subscribers.
