TMZ reported news of David’s arrest on Tuesday.

According to docs obtained by the outlet, David was pulled over last Friday while driving in Lake County, Florida because he had a malfunctioning headlight.

The officer reportedly said they could smell marijuana coming from his car, which prompted them to search the vehicle.

The docs state that the cops then found a grinder and baggies that contained several small squares of paper.

The paper tested positive for LSD, which led the American Idol alum to be taken into custody.

David reportedly admitted to the cops that he had been smoking weed with a friend prior to driving, though he claimed the LSD did not belong to him.

However, officers arrested David and booked him for possession of a controlled substance because he was the only person in the vehicle.

The arrest is a third-degree felony.

David is set to return back to court next month.

The singer appeared sad in his mugshot, as he looked off into the distance with teary eyes.

AMERICAN IDOL PAST

David is best known for appearing on numerous seasons of American Idol.

He made his debut on the singing competition show in 2013 during season 12, where he impressed the judges enough to make it to the quarterfinals.

David returned to sing for judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. during season 13, where he explained that he was prepared to show how he’s “grown” as an artist.

During the audition, David played the acoustic guitar as he sang Too Close by Alex Clare.

PRAISE FOR DAVID

Once the song ended, JLo told David she was “so glad” to see him.

She said: “Your voice had such a beautiful tone and presence to it. You played great, too. It felt right.”

However, Harry expressed his skepticism about David’s ability to put down his guitar while playing in order to focus on his vocals.

Keith then said that David sang “effortlessly” before the judges moved him on to the next round of the competition.

David was later eliminated, though returned to compete for a third time during season 14.
