An Antiques Roadshow expert shocked a guest by calling her 'obsessive' before unveiling a four-figure valuation for her collection of vintage compact purses.
Guest showcases vintage compact purses
During a recent episode of the popular show, host Fiona Bruce and her team of experts visited Ebrington Square in Londonderry to appraise various items. One guest brought along her collection of vintage compact purses for valuation.
'Obsessive' collector?
As the expert, Ronnie, examined the items on the table, he playfully asked the guest if she could be considered an 'obsessive collector'. The guest laughed off the comment, denying that it was obvious. Ronnie then inquired about the size of her collection, to which she replied she owned 'probably over 1000' purses.
Stunning silver enamel purses
Ronnie closely examined the compact purses and praised their craftsmanship, noting that they were made from 'the most beautiful silver enamel'. He pointed out a unique triangular purse that could be worn on a finger and described it as a 'thing of beauty'. Ronnie highlighted the intricate details, such as the jewelled thumb press and the sapphire used to open one of the compartments.
Surprising valuation
When it came time to value the purses, Ronnie admitted that it was challenging to determine their worth. However, he estimated that one purse was worth £900 and another was valued at £700. Ronnie then dropped the bombshell, revealing that the entire collection on the table was worth an impressive £5,000.
Guest left speechless
The guest was left speechless by the valuation, exclaiming, "Oh my god, oh right. And I have three daughters speeding to the house now." The unexpected valuation undoubtedly left her pleasantly surprised.
