Hidden Treasure Unveiled
A recent episode of the popular BBC series Antiques Roadshow left viewers in awe as a guest discovered the staggering value of a poster that almost ended up in the bin. The episode, which took place in Roundhay Park in Leeds, featured an expert named Clive Farahar who encountered a couple with an unexpected find.
Historical Significance
The couple had brought in a poster from the London Evening Standard dated November 22, 1963 - the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. The simple yet powerful headline, "Kennedy Dead," caught the attention of the expert.
A Surprising Discovery
When asked where they found the poster, the guest explained that it had been tucked away in a sideboard inherited from his parents. Earlier this year, they needed some space in the garage and almost discarded the poster along with other old items. The wife admitted that she initially wanted to throw it in the recycling bin.
Unexpected Valuation
Clive Farahar, the antiques expert, examined the poster and proclaimed it to be of significant value. He mentioned that the artist behind the poster was likely Stark, adding to its appeal. The couple was astounded when he revealed that he could put a price tag of £1,000 on it.
A Near Miss
The wife's reaction was priceless as she covered her mouth in shock, realizing the close call they had with losing such a valuable piece. Clive jokingly reminded them that they had almost dismantled and discarded the poster.
