Antiques Roadshow Guest Discovers Beer Glass Worth £3k

Uncovering a Hidden Gem

An emotional moment unfolded on the Antiques Roadshow as a guest learned the true value of an item he had planned to sell for a mere £40. A recently resurfaced clip from the US edition of the popular BBC One show showcased a beer glass that turned out to be worth much more than the guest had anticipated.

A Surprise Reveal

Antique expert Noel Barrett examined a classic beer stein that had belonged to the guest's grandmother. As the guest revealed the sentimental value of the item, Noel inspected it closely and made a remarkable discovery. The glass, dating back to around 1880, turned out to be an advertisement glass used to promote a brand of beer in bars across the US.

A Rare Find

Noel explained that these types of advertisement glasses were specifically made to be displayed behind bars. They featured a reverse on glass applied label, a curved piece of glass painted in reverse and then applied to the mug. Such items were uncommon, making the guest's find all the more remarkable.

From Car Boot Sale to Treasure

The guest shared his plan to sell the beer glass at a car boot sale for just $50. However, his intentions were quickly shattered when Noel disclosed the true value of the item. The expert declared that the beer glass was a real treasure, worth a staggering £3,000. Overwhelmed by the news, the guest broke down in tears.
