There was shock all around on Antiques Roadshow
This brooch took centre stage
The booch in question was a stunning bird design that was coloured gold.
It was a family heirloom that had been passed down generation by generation to each newborn daughter.
Show expert Joanna Hardy took a look at the item as she said: “This is a very special jewel and I wasn’t disappointed when I opened the box to see this.”
Joanna continued: “To think that this brooch has been passed down through these generations, that is what jewellery is all about.
“I love it because it is everything that I look for in a jewel, it is beautifully crafted.
“Everything you see has been hand done and handmade.”
When it came down to the inspection, Joanna seemed thrilled as she explained how the bird had been made with an “emerald eye”.
It also featured stunning “yellow diamonds” and “all white diamonds” to give it an excellent finish.
Joanna went onto give a valuation for the piece which left the guests utterly shocked.
Commenting on their “absolutely superb” nature, the BBC One expert said: “If you were going to buy something similar, you would probably need to spend about £25,000 and £30,000.”
The five-figure sum stopped the guests in their tracks as the oldest of the trip placed her hand to her mouth in disbelief.
She then said to her daughter: “Look after it!”
