Autumnwatch viewers distracted by background antics as Chris Packham presents live – but did you notice?

AUTUMNWATCH viewers were left in hysterics during a surprising moment in last night’s show.

The BBC seasonal favourite was out in full force for its autumnal offering as Chris Packham got his presenting duties underway.

Chris was oblivious to the antics

During the programme, Chris delivered a piece to camera about the functionality of ecosystems using some baked beans as a visual prop.

The presenter was on location in the woodland where night had begun to fall.

However it wasn’t what Chris was actually saying that had the viewers of the nature show talking at home.

They were all left completely distracted by some actual wildlife which had actually run onto the show’s set.

BIG DISTRACHAN

Autumnwatch fans all say the same about host Michaela Strachan in new series

An oblivious Chris continued to speak to the camera as a large number of ponies began to appear in the space behind him.

Chris was left totally unaware as the swarms of ponies began to charge in the background, running from one side of the screen to the other.

Fans were left chuckling at home and shared their delight on Twitter.

One fan was left initially in disbelief as they said: “I saw some ponies behind Chris! I did see some ponies behind Chris didn’t I?”

Another remarked: “@BBCSpringwatch did we just see a lot of horses running behind Chris on #Autumnwatch.”

A third wrote: “Hi – Distracted by the charging ponies, behind Chris Packham’s piece to camera, at the end of tonight’s wonderful show! Were they Konik ponies please? #autumnwatch.”

While a fourth viewer joyfully said: “The ponies stealthily charging along in the background while Chris Packham waxed on about peas and carrots and crayfish on #AutumnWatch has just made my day.”

The show returned earlier this week with Chris and Michaela Strachan hosting from Wild Ken Hill in Norfolk.

Meanwhile, Gillian Burke explored the natural wonders of Cardigan Bay.

However, regular viewers of Autumnwatch and Springwatch were quick to notice that Chris’s stepdaughter Megan McCubbin was missing from the line up this year.

Megan has worked on the shows since 2020, often presenting alongside her stepdad, but she took to Twitter to reveal she wouldn’t be part of the 2022 series.

BOOB BRIGADE

As he rounded off the show, Chris acknowledged the background shenanigans for the first time.

As he told viewers to tune into the next broadcast he added: “We will be back for some more fun and frolics and maybe some ponies.”

He then exclaimed: “I didn’t even know the ponies were there!”

Autumnwatch continues tonight at 8pm on BBC Two.
