TV Chef's Passing

Renowned TV chef Richard Hughes has passed away at the age of 63 after a long battle with illness. The chef, who was a familiar face on local Norfolk shows and chef patron at Norwich's Assembly House, lost his fight on Sunday.

A Culinary Journey

Richard began his culinary career at the age of 15 as a pot washer at Great Yarmouth's Imperial Hotel. Over the years, he climbed the ranks to become the head chef at the same hotel. He later worked at the Michelin-starred The Rookery in Cheshire before returning to Norfolk in 1991 to open his first restaurant, Number 24. In 2009, he took on the lease at the Assembly House, where he continued to showcase his culinary talents.

Heartfelt Tributes

Richard's family shared that he had been undergoing treatment for 18 months before his passing. Despite falling ill four years ago, he remained dedicated to his work until last December. In a touching message to his staff and customers, he expressed his love for the industry and the joy of bringing happiness to people's lives through his food.

Fond Memories

Describing his work as a privilege, Richard highlighted the importance of working with family and close friends. His presence on local channel Mustard TV, where he showcased his cooking skills while exploring Norfolk, further solidified his place in the hearts of many.
