KATE Garraway was left cringing on today’s Good Morning Britain as co-host Adil Ray claimed he’d been snubbed from the show’s Christmas party.
The GMB festive gathering has been axed as the Omicron coronavirus variant continues to spread.
It also comes after accusations Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government held parties inside Downing Street last year while the nation was in lockdown.
Earlier this week the PM controversially introduced the government’s Plan B in a bid to limit transmission of the virus – but many accused it of being a ‘dead cat’ to distract from the party outrage.
Kate said: “The big news this morning is that our Christmas party is cancelled. The presenter party this year is cancelled.”
Adil then chipped in: “I wasn’t invited anyway.”
Kate responded: “You were. You just never read your emails.”
“I didn’t know there was one,” Adil insisted. “Dig that hole.”
Kate continued: “No. It’s not my Christmas party.”
Adil “Inside [your head] there’s another conversation going on saying, ‘I wish I hadn’t brought this up now.'”
Kate “There really isn’t, there really isn’t. I know you were invited but we cancelled it and if anyone asks in the future, it never happened. It never happened. I’m confirming it now.”
This year Downing Street won’t hold a Christmas party either because No10 wants to “focus on tackling Omicron”.
Festive celebrations are still allowed to take place this year, but No10 officials will be focusing on the “intensive work” needed to beat the mutant virus instead.
A Downing Street spokesperson said: “As the Prime Minister said Christmas parties can continue to go ahead under Plan B.
“Everyone should continue to behave cautiously and we recommend people take lateral flow tests before meeting others socially in high-risk settings, but it is up to individual businesses and people to decide what works for them.
“No10 is focused on tackling the rise of the new omicron variant and the ongoing pandemic, and there are therefore no plans for a party while this intensive work is ongoing.”
It comes after the Met police said they WON’T be probing the Downing Street Christmas Party which allegedly happened last year.
The force has said it won’t investigate the lockdown party allegations due to an “absence of evidence” and their policy to not probe “historic breaches of Covid regulations”.
Boris’s top aide Allegra Stratton resigned in tears this week just hours after bombshell footage showed her laughing about a lockdown-busting Christmas party at No10.
The PM earlier said he was “sickened” by the leaked video of his senior advisers joking about the alleged illegal gathering last year.
