Baptiste viewers all have the same complaint as BBC drama finally returns for season two

BBC drama Baptiste finally returned for season two, but some fans were not happy with what they saw.

Series two has seen the return of Tchéky Karyo as detective Julien Baptiste.

Baptiste has returned for a second season on BBC, starring Tchéky Karyo and Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve)

The second series saw Baptiste return as a broken man, following a personal tragedy.

He has isolated himself from his family, pushed his wife Celia out and attempts to immerse himself in a new case.

The missing persons are the husband and two sons of Emma Chambers (Fiona Shaw), the British Ambassador to Hungary.

They went missing while on a skiing holiday in the Hungarian mountains, but that was not the mystery that had fans baffled.

The premiere episode of the second season broke from convention and showed events from two timelines.

One of the timelines shows Baptiste desperate to find another case to distract himself from his problems as he learns of the missing family.

The other timeline is set in the future showing Baptiste with a bushy beard and the British Ambassador confined to a wheelchair.

Her husband’s dead body has been found, but the whereabouts of her sons are still unknown.

Viewers see a video on Emma’s phone of her husband being dragged away by an unknown man as her sons are heard making pleas of “stop.”

Then the final scene of the episode shows an unknown man locked up in the back of a police van.

The time jumps across the episode left viewers ‘confused’.

“I’m a tad confused!! #Baptiste,” wrote one Twitter user.

Another added: “What is going on?”

And a third said: “Is castaway #Baptiste past or future Baptiste? I’m lost!”

While fans felt confused, many praised the episode as a great opener to the new season.

The Celeb Report first revealed plans for a second season way back in March last year with the brand-new gripping case which will take viewers into Budapest’s secretive and corrupt underworld.

Tchéky said of the new season: “I am so excited and proud of Harry and Jack for their new audacious story in Hungary.

“I can’t wait to prepare for Julien’s new adventure and for the emotions that he is about to go through.”

The series synopsis promises a dark tale ahead as Baptiste “immerses himself into Emma’s world, committed to finding her husband and two sons.”

“However, when the case turns into something far more brutal and desperate, Julien must navigate a Hungarian police force he doesn’t trust and unrelenting media interest who are hungry for information on such a high-profile international case,” it continued.

“Julien must remain rational in the face of chaos in order to find Emma’s family. Will he be able to solve his most complex case yet?”
