Bargain Hunt star reveals the ‘junk’ lying around your house that’s worth thousands at auction

BARGAIN Hunt star Charles Hanson has revealed the ‘junk’ lying around people’s houses could be worth thousands at an auction.

As the cost of living hits brits across the country – any bit of extra income could really help some families out this year.

Without realising – some of those unwanted items that you want to get rid of in your home – could actually be worth some serious buck according to BBC’s Bargain Hunt expert, Charles Hanson.

Hanson’s Auctioneers, that is owned by Charles says there’s been a surge in demand for selling old junk to get a bit of cash.

The auction said you should look at items grown-up children no longer use, this includes vintage video games and cd’s and records.

The expert noticed a spike in selling old games and consoles during lockdown and pointed out how the price went up in value.

Charles said: “Buying habits are forever-changing in the auction industry and desirable objects alter with every generation. “

He added: “So while Ming Chinese vases or a Banksy painting grab the headlines, there are plenty of objects nearly everyone amasses over time that could spark a bidding war.”

The BBC auctioneer explained how people are “unaware of auction trends”, or simply can’t fathom the idea that “treasures lie dormant in their attic or under the bed”.

“But with bank balances under ferocious pressure, there’s no better time to realise the potential of unwanted objects.”

He shared that for example, a brand new copy of Nintendo Gameboy’s Pokemon Red sold for £2,800, and a 1st Edition sealed Pokemon Fossil Set Booster Box, with 36 unused packs, recently bagged £8,500.

Retro teddies and toys also from the mid-1950s to early 1960s also went up for sale for around £180 even though they weren’t brand new and had some imperfections.

Cindy dolls and Action man dolls are also in high demand, as well as a Paddington bear which picked up £260 and two 19th century French dolls fetched a whopping £1,700.
