BATTERSEA Dogs and Cats Home has announced that its veterinary hospital will be named after the late TV star Paul O’Grady. O’Grady, who passed away in March at the age of 67, was a devoted ambassador for the charity. The decision to name the hospital after him comes after the immense success of his For The Love of Dogs show, which was filmed at Battersea for 11 series. In memory of O’Grady, the charity set up a tribute fund that has raised an impressive £480,000. The majority of the funds will go towards life-saving and transformative medical procedures for pets, while five other animal charities close to O’Grady’s heart will also receive £20,000 each.
A Legacy of Love for Animals
Paul O’Grady was known for his unwavering passion and support for rescue animals. His widower, Andre Portasio, expressed his comfort in knowing that O’Grady’s legacy will continue through the dedication of Battersea and other charities. Portasio stated, “I know that Paul would have been pleased to know that the most disadvantaged animals he was so fond of championing are getting the love and support they deserve.”
