BBC blasted for ‘worst Christmas TV schedule EVER’ as viewers brand repeats and children’s film line-up ’embarrassing’

BBC viewers have blasted the broadcaster for its festive offering over the Christmas period.

One telly fan went as far as to say “it’s the worst scheduling I’ve ever seen,” as they gave their take on the shows being aired on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

BBC One viewers have been left furious at the broadcaster’s festive schedule

These include plenty of shows for the kids, including all three Kung Fu Panda films back-to-back on December 24, followed by Disney’s Moana, Cars 3, Paddington 2 and everyone’s favourite scarecrow, Worzel Gummage.

There’s a sole Christmas 2020 soap offering in the form of EastEnders while Gavin and Stacey’s long-awaited Christmas special, which delighted fans with its comeback last year, is again shown.

On the big day itself, BBC license fee payers are treated to two instalments of the Gruffalo, as well as a traditional Christmas Day service and the Queen’s Speech.

Then follows Christmas specials for Strictly Come Dancing, Call The Midwife, Blankety Blank and Mrs Browns Boys, while EastEnders again features.

The Queen’s Speech will be aired, as always, on December 25

Last year’s feel-good Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special will air on Christmas Eve

When everyone’s stuffed with turkey and mince pies, the in front of the telly Boxing Day sofa schedule shapes up with three Madagascar-themed films.

Sports fans are in for a treat with Football Focus, Match of the Day and Aston Villa V Crystal Palace Live.

The Great British Sewing Bee, EastEnders, and movie Dunkirk add to the evening’s schedule.

The BBC’s Twitter page revealed the prime time festive schedule with the words: “Mince pies at the ready! Here’s your Christmas schedule for
@BBCOne.”

EastEnders is the soap stalwart through the festive period

This prompted one disappointed user to quip: “Jesus Christ as if we haven’t suffered enough this year.”

Another wrote a lengthy message which read: “Worst Christmas TV scheduling I have ever seen.

“First, The Goes Wrong Show have been overlooked again. That should be on Christmas Eve.

“Then you stick a clip show on Christmas Day (stupid idea).

As well as a Christmas Day instalment of Blankety Blank

“And Boxing Day has absolutely nothing! Blankety Blank on CD is also daft.”

One then posted: “Not a single Christmas movie?! Not a 1…. what is happening? Luckily Netflix exists to save the day.”

Another raged: “What an absolute joke the BBC used to be the channel to watch at Christmas not anymore why on earth do we have to pay an extortionate license fee for this pile of rubbish. I could think of better programming in my sleep scrap the license fee.”

A hugely disappointed BBC viewer took to their page to put: “Well it looks like I will be getting the knitting needles out to shove in my eyes on Christmas Eve.

Footie fans are well served on Boxing Day – yet many viewers said they would turn to Netflix

Telly fans rued the lack of Christmas films, such as Elf, in the schedule

“What’s the obsession with celebrities, and Miranda Hart is about as funny as watching Ironside in a hopping competition.”

One then surmised: “Blimey…thank Heaven for Netflix and other channels.”

Yet one stuck up for the much-maligned broadcaster and wrote: “You may have not realised, but there’s been a massive pandemic this year making it difficult to film anything.”
