The BBC has made a surprise announcement regarding its morning lineup, revealing a significant shake-up for Breakfast and Morning Live in 2024.
Extended Shows for BBC Breakfast and Morning Live
Jon Kay, presenter of BBC Breakfast, took to X – formerly Twitter – to share the news with fans. He revealed that the programme will now be 15 minutes longer on weekdays. Additionally, Morning Live, hosted by Helen Skelton, Michelle Ackerley, and Gethin Jones, will also have an extended runtime. This move signifies a major expansion for the UK's two biggest morning shows.
The previous schedule had Breakfast airing from 6:00am to 9:15am, followed by Morning Live for 45 minutes until 10:00am.
Positive Reactions from Fans
Following the announcement, Jon Kay's followers expressed their excitement about the schedule change. One fan commented, "Can't wait and happy new year to you all," while others simply said, "Yippee!" and "Great news."
BBC Breakfast, the most-watched morning news show in the UK, underwent a makeover this summer for the first time in over a decade. The show now has a brand-new 'multi-purpose' studio, which it shares with BBC Sport at Media City in Salford. The studio boasts the latest broadcasting technology, including state-of-the-art graphics.
Jon Kay co-hosts BBC Breakfast with Sally Nugent from Monday to Wednesday, while Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt take over from Thursday to Saturday.
Morning Live, which launched in October 2020, airs at the same time as ITV's Lorraine. The magazine programme is presented by Michelle Ackerley, Gethin Jones, Kym Marsh, and Helen Skelton from its Manchester studios, following its move from Broadcasting House in London.
