Viewers left confused as familiar face is absent from Saturday's show
Viewers tuning into BBC Breakfast this morning were left confused after a much-loved presenter was noticeably absent from the show. Charlie Stayt, who is known for hosting the programme at the weekend, was replaced by journalist Ben Thompson. The unexpected change in lineup surprised fans who were used to starting their weekends with Stayt and co-host Naga Munchetty.
Ben Thompson steps in as temporary host
Stepping in for Charlie Stayt was journalist Ben Thompson, who has been a part of the BBC Breakfast team since 2012. Thompson often covers for the main presenters on weekends. With an impressive career spanning over two decades, he is also known for co-hosting the BBC's daily business programme, Business Live.
Extended shows and schedule shake-up
As BBC Breakfast underwent this unexpected change, the programme also launched its brand new extended shows this week. Previously airing from 6:00am to 9:15am, the show now runs until 9:30am before handing over to Morning Live. This schedule shake-up was announced by Breakfast presenter Jon Kay on social media, revealing that the programme will now be 15 minutes longer on weekdays. Morning Live, the show that follows BBC Breakfast, has also been extended, making it an exciting time for morning television in the UK.
BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
