Dan interviewed Conservative MP Brandon Lewis on todays programme

In the meantime, Dan is continuing his duties at the BBC and today he interviewed MP Brandon Lewis.

The Conservative MP and Secretary of State for Northern Ireland spoke about a multitude of issues including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Boris Johnson’s Partygate scandal.

While Dan peppered him with questions, some viewers felt the journalist was “too nice”.

As Mr Lewis remained relatively unmoved during the interview, many at home wished Dan had taken him to task over it more.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “That was the worst political interview I’ve seen for a long time. Dan Walker didn’t interview Brandon Lewis he stroked his ego.

“If this is the best he can do then it really is time he went.”

Another said: “Dan Walker, have a chat with Jeremy Paxman or Andrew Neil. They will enlighten you on how not to suffer someone like Brandon Lewis.

“You had an open goal, too nice for serious political journalism. Have a great day.”

A third raged: “Dan Walker is comfortable talking about cake, slippers, homemade soup and how I made a duvet out of my aunties old frocks …….but asking a seasoned politician about the criminality of the current government? Sorry Dan you just ain’t got it.”

Meanwhile a fourth shared: “Dan Walker being true-to-form and allowing Brandon Lewis to turn, what should’ve been a difficult interview, into a walk in the park.”

Dan has been part of BBC Breakfast for six years after replacing Bill Turnbull in 2006.

He will be hosting Channel 5’s revamped 5 News, as well as a number of other shows for the broadcaster.

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
