BBC Breakfast viewers broke down in tears as Dan Walker bid farewell to the show after six years.

Today’s show marked Dan’s last, after he announced last month that he was leaving the BBC for a new role at Channel 5.

Dan also posted a sweet snap from the studio on his last day

Dan, 44, admitted he had only managed to have “two hours and 46 minutes” of sleep the night before after some “travel issues”, but still looked perky on his last show.

As the programme wore on, Dan started to say goodbye to his colleagues including correspondents reporting in from different places.

Viewers became emotional as the end drew near, with one writing on Twitter: “@mrdanwalker All the best for the future Dan, thank you for keeping us entertained #BBC #BBCBreakfast @BBCBreakfast.”

Another tweeted: “@mrdanwalker@sallynugent I will really miss your smile and your caring approach.

WALK-ER OFF

Here's why Dan Walker is leaving BBC Breakfast

“Hope you find what you want in your new post but please don’t stop being the caring, approachable individual that you are. All the best.” before finishing with a crying emoji.

A third added: ” @Christmascrazy @mrdanwalker @sallynugent I’m going to be consuming copious amounts of cake” alongside multiple sobbing emojis.

Dan also took to social media to share a snap with co-star Sally Nugent and the crew.

He wrote: “I love this lot. The #BBCBreakfast studio team this morning. @sallynugenttv Susan @higgala @martynsouter01.”

His departure comes as bookmakers claim bosses are ‘honing in’ on his replacement.

While his successor hasn’t officially been announced, Ladbrokes believe it’s almost certain Jon Kay will be the man to take over.

The 52-year-old has worked on Breakfast since 2010 and often fills in for its main hosts.

Labrokes spokesman Alex Apati told the Star: “It’s looking increasingly likely that BBC chiefs have found Dan Walker’s replacement.

“And he’s no stranger to the Breakfast family, with Jon Kay pulling away from the chasing pack.”
