BBC Breakfast viewers demand bosses ‘be responsible’ as they rage over egg shortage report

VIEWERS of BBC Breakfast have raged at bosses over their report on egg shortages alleging it is causing people to panic buy.

This morning, Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt were on presenting duties as they introduced a report on the current egg shortage and how it is affecting Britain and its supermarkets.

Introducing the pre-packaged report, host Naga said: “So, there is a shortage of eggs on our supermarket shelves and we are being told it is only temporary that’s according to the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs secretary Therese Coffey.”

Charlie added: “It follows a decision by Asda and Lidl to limit the number of eggs customers can buy after supplies were affected by the outbreak of Avian flu.”

During the report, issues such as the rising price of feed and fuel were among the main concerns the suppliers of eggs had.

This is on top of the 113 confirmed cases of Avian flu that has occurred since the start of last month.

In the BBC’s report, the British Retail Consortium defiantly said: “We are not running out of eggs.”

The decision to broadcast the report has left many viewers at home feeling unhappy with allegations from some online saying it is an attempt to create panic buying.

Hitting out, many took to social media to air their thoughts.

One wrote: “1st petrol then electricity now eggs anything else we could potentially run out of stop spreading bull**** #BBCBreakfast.”

Another pleaded: “Stop buying eggs, the prices will soon come back down. STOP BUYING EGGS ! #stopbuyingeggs #bbcbreakfast.”

A third said: “BBC Breakfast creating panic buying of………eggs. Ffs, be responsible.”

While a fourth penned: “Media whipping up egg shortages saga and panicking idiots to run out to buy eggs they don’t even need. #BBCBreakfast.”
