BBC Breakfast viewers slam Naga Munchetty after ‘awkward’ exchange with reporter live on air

BBC Breakfast viewers have slammed Naga Munchetty after her “awkward” exchange with a reporter live on air.

The TV presenter and her co-host Charlie Stayt could be seen encouraging Andrew Plant to strip down and go for a swim.

The star wasn’t keen to get into the cold sea water

Andrew had headed down to Clevedon, Somerset, to meet with sunshine seekers enjoying the hot weather on Friday morning.

Dressed in a shirt and shorts, he interviewed swimmers dipping into the cold seawater to cool off as temperatures soar across the UK.

“It will be the hottest day of 2022,” Andrew concluded, as he linked back to Naga, 47, and Charlie, 59, in the BBC studio.

However, his co-star Charlie replied to a confused-looking Andrew: “Andrew, I don’t think we’re quite finished yet, are we?

BBC Breakfast staff 'awkward and uneasy' over Dan Walker's replacement

“There’s been an Instagram poll for BBC Breakfast viewers this morning suggesting that in order we fully understand how lovely it is down there that you should take a dip in.

“I know you have done it before so it just feels like part of the story.”

“Unless you want to see my crying on TV, you don’t want to see me going in that water,” Andrew replied, adamant he wasn’t going in.

Naga hit back: “But Andy, we do [want to see]. We’ve got time. We’ve been given loads of time for you to do it. We’re happy to wait.”

“I’m overdressed, I can’t strip on camera and I forgot my swimming trunks,” Andrew continued. “I’m scared – I can’t jump in. Maybe later.”

“What time? Just after nine maybe?” Naga continued to push, as Andrew concluded: “Just after we’re off air.”

Fans at home were left feeling uncomfortable about the exchange, and took to Twitter to slam Naga’s “awkward” encouragement.

“Awkward and embarrassing,” one wrote. “I was once forced into the water against my wishes, put me off swimming for life.”

Another chimed in: “Grow up, he doesn’t want to go swimming,” as a third said: “Two minutes of awkward and pointless in equal measure.”

“Naga trying to force the male reporter to strip off,” a fourth added. “Imagine the backlash if Charlie was doing the same to a female?”

It comes after Naga made a BRUTAL swipe at Carol Kirkwood‘s looks as she showed off her outfit yesterday at Ascot Racecourse.

Carol, 60, decided to get into the spirit of things and rocked a number of different hats on the BBC morning show.

After her first appearance, Charlie Stayt, 59, joked that her first choice looked like a satellite dish.

As the TV favourite proudly showed off her hat, Naga, 47, brutally said: “I always think the back of your head looks much better!”
