BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker exposes guest for storming out of studio after Team GB Olympics defeat

BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker has exposed a guest for storming out of the studio after Team GB suffered a shocking Olympic defeat.

It came as Bianca Walkden was beaten in a nail-biting Taekwondo face-off by South Korean competitor Lee Da-bin.

Fronting the BBC’s coverage of the Olympics on Tuesday, TV host Dan was joined by hockey star Sam Quek and Taekwondo star Lutalo Muhammad.

Ahead of discussions about Bianca’s tragic defeat, he exposed gold-medal winner Lutalo, 30, for walking out of the studio over the loss.

Devastated watching her defeat, the sporting star threw his arms in the air and angrily walked away from his seat as the cameras followed him.

“Oh, dear me,” Dan could be heard saying to the cameras as they watched the loss on a TV screen. “That is so harsh, isn’t it?”

A shocked-looking Lutalo, who had returned to his chair, replied: “Speechless. It’s the harsh reality of the sport we’re in.

“It’s not over until it’s over. For Bianca to lose that in the last second – well, the Korean won it, but Dan, I’m literally lost for words.”

Trying to keep the conversation flowing through the awkward silence, Dan added: “I know people get into Taekwando every Olympic cycle.

“But many people remember five years ago and what she went through then and she’s had this five-year build-up to try and get it right.

“Then to be one second away from being in that final later today, we say robbed but it was a brilliant move by the South Korean.”

Lutalo couldn’t help but agree, adding: “It was. She did exactly the one thing she could’ve done to win and she executed perfectly. 

“It’s heartbreaking for Bianca, you know, you mentioned those five years, I’ve been in the gym with her, she’s put everything into this. 

“Her whole life has been driven to being Olympic champion. She’s won everything there is to win in the sport except Olympic gold medal.”

Looking downcast, he concluded to Dan: “It is a little bit heartbreaking to think she has to wait a little bit longer.”

Lutalo later pointed out that Bianca still had a chance at a bronze medal in another match, that she will “treat as if it was the final”.

Lightening the mood in the studio, Dan ordered for a replay of Lutalo’s reaction to the loss, which showed him storming off once again.

“I don’t know how you deal with the tension about being in that situation,” Dan could be heard saying to introduce the clip: “But I do know how you deal with the tension of watching it with us because we had a camera on you – have a look at this.”

“Oh, my goodness,” Lutalo replied, looking embarrassed, as the clip played showing him walking off and throwing his arms around.
