BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker in fresh dig at Piers Morgan as he pretends not to know who he is during Strictly interview

BBC BREAKFAST’S Dan Walker has made a fresh dig at Piers Morgan as he pretended not to know who he is during a Strictly interview.

Dan, 44, is taking part in the new series of Strictly and is partnered with Nadiya Bychkova.

Dan has a friendly rivalry with fellow journalist Piers, 56, with the pair regularly exchanging barbs on social media.

And in an interview with The Celeb Report’s TV Mag as part of its 80-page Strictly special, Dan had the opportunity to make another dig at his nemesis.

When asked about his ups and downs with Piers, Dan replied: “Who?”

Asked if he was worried about the criticism Piers is likely to send Dan’s way after he dances, he replied with a simple: “No.”

The ribbing has already begun online, with Piers taking great delight in poking fun at the fact Strictly’s launch show last weekend had the lowest viewing figures in 11 years.

The show was watched by 7 million people, giving it a 44.7% share of the live viewing figures, but that was down on previous years.

Piers retweeted an article about the stats and wrote: “Congrats @mrdanwalker”, along with a thumbs-up emoji.

While Piers hasn’t been supportive, the same can’t be said for Dan’s BBC Breakfast co-stars, many of whom have already showed off their fancy footwork on the Strictly dance floor.

He said: “They’ve been lovely actually. Carol, who is the nicest human on the planet anyway, she just said… most of them just said “go and enjoy it.”

Explaining his decision to take part, Dan said: “I’ve worked in every morning for the last 18 months and there’s been so many horrible stories to cover, Covid largely, horrible things in the news, so many people have had a miserable two years, 18 months, so I think when this opportunity came up to do Strictly.

“I’d been asked to do it before and it’s never felt right and I just thought, do you know what my kids are desperate for me to do it, I’d like to learn something new and I just want to have a bit of fun and learn a new skill from someone who is amazing.

“It just all fell together at the right time.”
