BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker left red-faced as Carol Kirkwood’s replacement takes brutal swipe at Strictly stint

BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker was left red-faced after Carol Kirkwood’s replacement took a brutal swipe at his Strictly stint.

Today’s show saw Matt Taylor presenting the weather instead of Carol, 59, from Blackpool.

Matt Taylor was doing the weather report from the ballroom at Blackpool Tower

Matt was live from the ballroom in Blackpool, which has played host to Strictly Come Dancing on many occasions.

Matt explained to viewers how the venue had been closed for three weeks in a bid to restore it to its former glory, but had now reopened.

As couples danced behind him and the organ played on the stage, Matt said: “I have to say a big thank you to the dancers who came down earlier this morning including Antony and Chris who came all the way from Macclesfield at three o’clock.”

Dan’s co-star Sally Nugent replied: “I’ve just got to ask one very important thing: Does the organ come up through the floor?”

Matt confirmed: “It does. It comes up partway through the morning while they’re [the dancers] waltzing around and it comes up through the floor.

“You have to come here Sally, it’s amazing. It’s just a shame Dan didn’t come here for Strictly.”

Dan, 44, replied: “Alright stop rubbing it in – I did make it to the quarter finals.”

Indeed, if the show had gone to Blackpool at the point in the series that it usually does during last year’s run, Dan would have been there.

Unfortunately the show missed out on Blackpool week for a second year in a row due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, Sally loved the idea of her and Dan going to the Blackpool ballroom and joked: “I love that – you could dance and I could play the organ as it comes up through the floor.”

But Dan replied: “I’m just going to ignore that” before moving on to the next segment.
