BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt slammed for ‘making guest uncomfortable’ in ‘awkward’ interview

BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt have been slammed for ‘making a guest uncomfortable’ in an ‘awkward’ interview.

The presenters were joined by chef Max La Manna on today’s show to talk about how to keep food costs down in the run up to Christmas and over the festive period itself.

Max gave out a number of money, food and energy saving tips, but Naga wasn’t so sure about one of his suggestions.

Max said people could cook pasta and save money by putting the pasta in boiling water on the hob for two minutes, then turning the gas off, putting a lid on the pan and letting it cook through in the steam and hot water for a further 10 minutes.

But Naga replied: “So I read this, I don’t believe you.”

Max looked stunned and Naga continued: “I tell you why I don’t believe you, because on the pasta packet it says ‘boil for 10 minutes for al dente’ so if it’s not actively boiling, how can it be the same amount of time to cook?”

Max paused awkwardly and admitted he didn’t know and said an Italian scientist had figured it out.

BBC Breakfast viewers at home were not impressed with the awkward moment and took to Twitter to comment.

One wrote: “Naga and Charlie know how to make guests feel uncomfortable.”

Another added: “That was a proper awkward interview around wasted food. I loved it.”

A third tweeted: “Good answer to Charlie’s question – how much is [actually] wasted.”

Max also suggested using potato peelings to make crisps, and when Naga asked what he does with the stem of a broccoli, he said he “steams it and blends it up into a pesto”.

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
