THE BBC just can’t help churning out good dramas, and Vigil looks set to be no different.
The brand new six-part series is from the same creators of Line of Duty and Bodyguard and will air consecutive nights this August bank holiday weekend.
The first episode will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 9pm on Sunday 29 August, with episode two at 9pm on the bank holiday Monday, 30 August.
Vigil will then continue each Sunday night, with new episodes premiering weekly on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
BBC One has now released highly-anticipated images of the gripping thriller – based on tracking a deadly war between the police and military.
Starring Line of Duty’s Martin Compston and Doctor Foster’s Suranne Jones, the photos give fans an idea of the drama that will unfold.
The story kicks off with a suspicious death aboard the submarine HMS Vigil and the mysterious disappearance of a fishing trawler.
One photo shows Suranne, who plays DCI Amy Silva, tasked with going to the submarine to lead the investigation at sea.
Viewers will see Amy make the terrifying journey in a helicopter before she is lowered down to the submarine.
In another image, Martin who plays the role of Petty Officer Burke, is seen in seen in a very heated confrontation.
It also features Game of Thrones Rose Leslie, who plays DS Kirsten Longacre, who is seen looking inquisitive in an interviewing room.
The plot sees the police come into conflict with the Royal Navy and British security services after the disappearance of a fishing ship and a death aboard the submarine.
Over the course of their investigation, they find themselves entangled in a conspiracy that goes to the core of British intelligence.
And it features a star studded line up of actors including Stephen Dillane, Anjli Mohindra and Paterson Joseph.
The six-part mini-series was created and written by Bafta-nominated writer Tom Edge, with episodes by Ed Macdonald and Chandni Lakhani.
