BBC drama Happy Valley has surprising impact on town it’s filmed in

BBC hit drama Happy Valley has sent house prices rocketing in Halifax, it has been claimed.

The crime saga, which stars Sarah Lancashire as hero cop Sergeant Catherine Cawood, concludes after three series this Sunday after attracting peaks of over eight million viewers. 

Now the local MP has reported the boom effect on the Calder Valley area of West Yorkshire.

Shadow Home Office minister Holly Lynch told The Big Issue: “I’ve joked before that Tommy Lee Royce brought down house prices in Halifax. But actually, the opposite is true.

“Almost every street name and reference – where it’s filmed, that’s where it’s set. 

“There’s been a bit of a renaissance in our town centre. 

“Now we’ve had Samuel L Jackson filming Marvel’s Secret Invasion series at Peace Hall in Halifax at the end of last year.”

Happy Valley is filmed at locations in Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Mythomolroyd, Luddenden, Ripponden, Sowerby Bridge and Wainstalls.

Viewers will be treated to an extended episode for the show’s finale as the third series reaches its dramatic showdown.

The Bafta-winning drama will conclude with a 70 minute special.
