But for fans of the much-loved series, it means they will have to wait one additional week for their weekly drama fix.

The official Call the Midwife Twitter account teased the upcoming episode, which will focus on Trixie Franklin’s big day, on social media.

They wrote: “Behind the Scenes on the Call the Midwife Series 12 Finale: Wedding Reception Child Wrangling!

“Laura Main herds the nicest cats you ever met – April Rae Hoang (May), Alice Brown(Angela) and Ned Shaw(Teddy) NOTE: #CallTheMidwife finale airs NEXT WEEK due to @BAFTA awards.”

On the most recent episode, the crowd burst into fits of laughter after Nurse Trixie Franklin appeared to offer a young expectant mother some advice.

Trixie jumped into action to help an adolescent who had kept her pregnancy a secret from her parents.

This comes after Helen George, who plays Trixie spoke out about season 12’s finale after it was pulled from screens by the BBC.

The actress, 38, has played Trixie Franklin in the popular drama since 2012.

The twelfth series of Call The Midwife premiered last month and is due to wrap up very soon.

Fans of the show are excited to see Helen’s character Trixie tie the knot with Matthew Aylward (Olly Rix), after the episode was delayed due to this year’s BAFTAs.

During a Q&A on Instagram, Helen opened up about what viewers can expect for the final episode.

When asked to choose three words to describe the finale, Helen said: “Profound, romantic and community.”
