EASTENDERS fans have been left feeling uneasy after 12 year old Lily Slater enjoyed a gender reveal party for her unborn child.
It has become one of the most talked about plots on the BBC soap this year but fans were left less than impressed as Lily and the baby’s father Ricky Mitchell gathered their family and friends for a lavish gender reveal party despite Lily only being 12 years old.
Lily celebrated her gender reveal
Many fans called out the soap over the scenes
Lily’s pregnancy was uncovered at the start of the year sending shockwaves through Albert Square.
Her mum Stacey, played by Lacey Turner, was left in absolute shock but has proved a rock for her daughter during this unexpected time.
With the dust settling on the initial shock for the Slater clan, Lily (Lilia Turner) has begun to enjoy her pregnancy and has seen Ricky step up to the prospect of being a dad.
However, fans have been concerned over the ‘glorification’ of a pre-teen pregnancy which came to a head during Lily’s over-the-top party.
Viewers watched on as they enjoyed cakes and sweet treats before sipping on cordial instead of champagne.
Question the soap’s decision to broadcast the scene, one fan insisted it made them want to ‘leave the planet’.
Writing online, the disgruntled fan said: “This gender reveal party for a pregnant 12-year-old makes me not wanna live on this planet anymore #EastEnders.”
Another echoed: “I can’t believe they are doing a gender reveal for a 12 year old pregnancy.”
While a third said of the “grim” scenes: “12 year old Lily organising her gender reveal party is just really grim. The acting may be good, but there’s still been no proper exploration of the physical and emotional dangers of a child having a baby.”
As a fourth insisted the Slater clan should not be celebrating the pregnancy as they insisted: “Everyone acting like a gender reveal party for a pregnant 12 year old is something to celebrate.”
In the scenes, Lily and Jean (Gillian Wright) baked a cake for the party, adding either blue or pink food colouring.
However, when Lily cut into the cake, it came out green leading to many confused.
Until Ricky (Frankie Day) blurted out: “You said it was pink.”
Lily replied: “Oh just tell them why don’t you.”
An excited Jean yelled: “It’s a girl!” followed by everyone cheering and applauding.
“Another Slater lady!” Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) chimed in.
The Slater clan were delighted
