She is then heard saying: “I want what’s best for all of these kids, but sometimes that means having to make the tough calls.”

As the action quickly whips by, she is also heard fretting: “We cannot risk going into special measures.”

She is then seen looking stunned when former deputy head – and ex-flame – Andrew Treneman returns.

Kim also has to deal with the fallout from a violent brawl in the canteen involving Kym Marsh’s character Nicky Walters.

As a teary-eyed Nicky sits in her office, Kim tells her: “You have put me in an impossible position Nicky.”

It’s not all bad news for Nicky though, as a connection with Donte Charles (Adam Thomas) is clearly developing, as at one point he tells her: “You can always stay at ours if you get stuck.”

The pair share a number of meaningful looks during the short trailer, but Dante has to content with daughter Izzy, who is still grieving the death of her mum Chlo in the last series.

Dante can be seen telling her: “Look no one is going to replace your mum.”

But she shouts back: “You’re right, especially not you.”

Meanwhile, new boy Myles (Osian Morgan), who has been let go by a football Academy and is struggling to come to terms with a life back in mainstream education, makes it clear that he’s not there to make friends, and immediately sets about making a lasting impact on the school.

Elsewhere, love is in the air this term as new couples get together and hidden feelings come to the surface.

The students and staff embark on another term of romances and friendships, all whilst navigating issues including mental health, racism, the cost-of-living crisis and being LGBTQ+.
