BBC Presenter Jeremy Vine Faces Tax Battle Over Alleged Unpaid Taxes

Court Battle with Taxman

A well-known BBC presenter, Jeremy Vine, is facing a court battle with the taxman over an alleged "excessive" unpaid tax bill. The HMRC claims that Vine did not pay income tax and National Insurance on earnings from the BBC between 2013 and 2015.

Allegations and Appeals

Documents revealed that Vine was paid through his own company, Jelly Vine Productions, for his work on Radio 2 and other TV shows. While this practice is not illegal, HMRC believes Vine should be treated as an employee for tax and National Insurance purposes. Vine has appealed the accusations, calling them "premature" and "invalid."

High Earnings and Legal Battles

Vine reportedly earned up to £749,999 in 2016-2017, with a decrease to £499,999 the following year. The court documents confirmed his contract with the BBC for various productions, including Radio 2 shows, election coverage, Eggheads, and Points of View.

Other TV Stars Targeted

This case comes as HMRC has pursued other TV personalities like Gary Lineker and Eamonn Holmes for alleged unpaid taxes. Lineker was targeted for £4.9 million, while Holmes faced a £250,000 bill and was forced to sell his home.
