Sofia Hayat has recalled being stopped by officials in the Middle East after accidentally committing a crime. The UAE is known for its tough laws, and the actress, best known for Waterloo Road, found herself on the receiving end of it.
Lonely and Heartbroken
After a falling out with a friend who owed her money, Sofia had her passport seized at the airport and was detained for 12 hours. She described Dubai as a "hell hole" and expressed feelings of loneliness and heartbreak during her ordeal.
Uncertain Future and Financial Setback
Sofia shared her struggles of not being able to go home, losing clients, and facing uncertainty about her future. She feared being jailed or fined heavily but was eventually released with her passport. The incident cost her an additional £20,000.
Challenging Experience
Describing her time in custody, Sofia said she was thrown in a cell without any explanation and was told to "shut up" when she asked questions. She faced accusations and pressure during her detainment, causing panic attacks and emotional distress.
