THE BBC will not show an episode of Sir David Attenborough’s new series over fears it could spark a right-wing backlash.
Beeb bosses reckon themes reflecting a “destruction of nature” would provoke a furious response, it is claimed.
David Attenborough is back with a new series which focuses on wildlife in the UK
But the move is said to have angered programme-makers and some insiders at the corporation who fear the BBC has bowed to pressure from lobbying groups.
Wild Isles is a series looking at nature in Britain and is narrated by Sir David, 96. It begins on Sunday.
Five episodes are due to go out in primetime slots on BBC One.
A sixth — thought to be a stark look at the losses of nature in the UK — will be available only on iPlayer.
Senior BBC sources claim the decision was made to fend off potential criticisms from the right.
But the BBC called the claims “totally inaccurate” and said the sixth film, part-funded by nature charities the WWF and RSPB, was never meant for broadcast.
