A BEAT The Chasers contestant got an incredibly pleasant surprise when she walked away from the show with £10,000 – having only gone on it to meet host Bradley Walsh.
Jane Russell from Derbyshire took on three Chasers, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha, and Jenny Ryan for the lump sum, with the pros having 35 seconds to Jane’s 60.
The trio sensationally ran out of time while the contestant still had a lucky one second left on her clock.
Jane was clearly overwhelmed when she first walked into the studio, giddy to come face-to-face with 60-year-old Bradley.
She gushed: “You’re so gorgeous, I’ve always wanted to meet you, Brad – that’s why I’m here.
“I don’t care about winning any money just to meet you.”
Taken aback, the presenter responded: “Well, thanks Jane – that’s very kind… Are you a quizzer?”
Bursting into laughter, the retired housewife admitted that she isn’t, giggling: “I’ve only come out for a loaf of bread!”
But lady luck was evidently on her side, with Jane becoming the second contestant to win money on this series of Beat The Chasers.
Speaking after the show, Jane said that beating the Chasers was a “great personal achievement”, she added: “Even if there had been no money involved I would have been delighted to challenge them.
“It’s not about the money for me but about beating the most celebrated, brainiest quizzers.”
She continued: “I still have to pinch myself to believe it as never in a million years did I think I would win.”
Yesterday’s episode saw Kat Glennie-Soares from Essex break down in tears as she won £50,000.
She’d opted to take on all five Chasers, and when Mark Labbett stumbled over some answers she achieved the staggering victory.
