BEAT The Chasers viewers were left open-mouthed as a contestant missed out on a £55,000 prize by just two seconds in today’s show.
Ness was embroiled in a tense game with five out of the six Chasers, with the tense match leaving fans on the edge of their seat.
After earning £2,000 in the initial cash build, Ness was given a 19 second advantage to secure the staggering prize pot.
She opted for the harder task of five expert quizzers for more money because the show is a once in a lifetime opportunity, telling host Bradley Walsh: “I’m only here once. I’ve got nothing to lose… I think I can beat five Chasers.”
And her confidence was well-earned, with the nail-biting final moments seeing the Chasers win with just two seconds left on their clock after they quickly closed the time gap.
Bradley was visibly devastated for Ness and put his head on his desk in despair at her loss.
He told her: “The stress is immense, I honestly thought you had it.”
Those watching at home were also gutted on her behalf – taking to Twitter, one sympathetic fan wrote: “Unlucky Ness, played well – just one question in it.”
Another echoed: “Oh that was so close. Bad luck, Ness.”
But thankfully, Ness remained in high spirits – smiling broadly as she laughed off the near-miss.
The Chasers also gave her a gracious standing ovation as they praised her efforts, with newbie Darragh Ennis reassuring her that she did “exactly the right thing”.
