BEAT The Chasers’ Mark Labbett “ate humble pie” as he apologised to Shaun Wallace for “screwing up” in today’s show.
Yesterday, the 55-year-old quizzer shocked viewers when he lashed out at Shaun for “taking too long” on one of their questions.
And Mark got a taste of his own medicine this evening, when his own fumble cost the Chasers their victory.
The star, known as The Beast on the show, was a key factor in hopeful Kat winning a staggering £50,000 jackpot after taking on all five Chasers this evening.
She still had 20 seconds on the clock to the fivesome’s 14, and Mark hesitated on one of host Bradley Walsh’s questions before ultimately getting it wrong.
He buzzed in to answer the tricky question before Bradley had even finished asking it – but appeared to realise his mistake immediately.
He loudly sighed before hitting his desk, guessing an answer before being told that it was incorrect.
Mark was visibly embarrassed, putting his hands to his face as he said “sorry”, hanging his head in shame as the rest of the game went on.
And after congratulating Kat on her win, Mark swallowed his pride and apologised to his team mate.
He said: “I’ve got to do something I don’t normally do, which is eat massive humble pie.
“I am really sorry, especially to Shaun because I have him grief when he did similar last night.
“I am really sorry, I absolutely screwed up.”
Shaun did not respond, and looked unimpressed when the camera cut to him.
Mark fumed in an awkward spat during yesterday’s show because Shaun took too long to give an answer after he buzzed in.
Shaun ultimately got the question right, and they still beat the contestant.
However, Mark was unable to forgive how long he took, snapping: “You can’t do that, Shaun” after he apologised to the team.
Bradley then asked what happened, with Shaun explaining: “I don’t know, I’d rather take some time and get it right…”
But Mark interrupted, shouting across the other Chasers: “Absolutely not!
“It’s not your time to waste, that’s a terrible sin.”
Viewers at home couldn’t believe the frosty exchange, flocking to Twitter to share their reaction – even branding Mark “unprofessional”.
