BBC to Screen Classic Series for Christmas
The BBC has announced a festive treat for viewers, with the return of the iconic series, The Box of Delights, to mark its 40th anniversary. This beloved adaptation of John Masefield's children's book will captivate audiences once again.
A Classic Good vs Evil Tale
The Box of Delights originally aired on BBC One in 1984, boasting an impressive £1m budget, the largest at the time for a children's series. The story follows the schoolboy Kay Harker as he battles an evil wizard to protect a magical box with extraordinary powers.
Star-Studded Cast and Behind-the-Scenes Stories
The series featured actor Patrick Troughton, known as the second Doctor Who, and child star Devin Stanfield in the lead role. Devin's daring stunts and commitment to the role added an extra layer of excitement to the show, pushing the limits of special effects at the time.
Legacy and Blu-Ray Release
The Box of Delights remains a fan favorite, having received multiple awards, including three BAFTAs. To celebrate its return, all six episodes will be available on Blu-Ray, accompanied by a new documentary, "Time and Tide – Making The Box of Delights."
Don't Miss the Christmas Special
Make sure to tune in to BBC Four on Saturday, December 7 at 7:10pm to experience the magic of The Box of Delights once again.
