Bodies creator reveals future of show as Stephen Graham thriller tops Netflix charts

Stephen Graham's hit show Bodies

Stephen Graham has shared some insights into the future of his new show Bodies, which has quickly become a sensation on Netflix. The crime drama, featuring an all-star cast, has garnered a large fan base since its release on the streaming platform.

No plans for a second season

Despite the show's popularity, creator Paul Tomalin has stated that he has no intention of renewing the series for a second season. In an interview with Hello magazine, Tomalin revealed that his original pitch to Netflix only included eight episodes, and it was crucial for him to provide a satisfying conclusion without any cliff-hangers.

Closing the series without leaving fans hanging

Tomalin explained, "We went to Netflix and said, 'This is one series, this is a one and done, we want to close this off.' I think when you have such an amazing concept up front, you frustrate your audience if you don't resolve it." He emphasized the importance of avoiding the disappointment of waiting for a year and a half for answers, stating, "We really wanted you to feel that you'd seen the red curtain at the end."

The gripping plot and star-studded cast

The fictional thriller revolves around a murder investigation in London across four different time periods. Detectives must unravel a conspiracy spanning over 150 years when they discover the same body in the East End. The show features Shira Hass as a detective living in 2053, Kyle Soller as detective inspector Alfred Hillinghead from 1890, and Amaka Okafor from Greatest Days and The Responder.

Possibility of a second season

While Tomalin wouldn't completely rule out a second season, he made it clear that the original concept reaches a conclusion in the first season of Bodies. He hinted at potential storylines by stating, "That being said, when you see the back end, there's certainly a dot dot dot. But the premise that the show sets comes to an end."

Bodies has captivated audiences with its gripping plot and talented cast, and fans will have to wait and see if the show will continue beyond its first season.
