Top 20 Family Favourites Unveiled
A recent poll of 2,000 adults has unveiled the nation's top 20 family TV shows of all time. The list includes iconic favourites such as Strictly Come Dancing, Britain’s Got Talent, and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
Other classics that made the cut are The Generation Game, Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, and Gladiators.
Nostalgia for 90s TV Shows
It's no surprise that 56% of respondents feel nostalgic for the classic family TV shows of the 90s, with 77% reminiscing about Saturday nights in front of the TV during their younger years.
Nearly nine in 10 (89%) enjoy having their weekend tea while watching classic family entertainment on the telly.
Changing Family TV Traditions
While 35% of families feel much closer from watching Saturday night TV shows together, 64% believe this tradition has dwindled in recent years, partly due to modern technology like smartphones and streaming services.
Three-quarters (74%) of respondents believe that family TV shows should cater to all age groups, fostering a sense of togetherness.
The Evolution of Saturday Night TV
From Noel’s House Party to The Crystal Maze, the top 20 list showcases a mix of classic and modern family entertainment. However, 49% of Brits feel that Saturday night TV shows have declined in quality over the years, with only 21% thinking they've improved.
Despite this, settling in on Saturday nights to watch TV as a family remains a cherished tradition for many, providing an opportunity to bond, relax, and enjoy shared laughter.
With new delivery bundles like The Feed the Family Deal from McDonald’s, adding a fun twist to the experience, Saturday nights are set to remain a special time for families to come together and enjoy their favourite shows.
