BRITAIN’S Got Talent star Gabz is best known as the 14-year-old singer who blew the judges away in 2013 with their self-penned track The One.
Eight years on and the singer-songwriter is still creating music, having released an EP, Self Destruct, last year.
The 22-year-old has also appeared as one of 100 judges on BBC’s All Together Now, hosted by Geri Horner and comedian Rob Beckett.
Aside from music, Gabz is a TikTok star with over 112,000 followers and nearly 1.5million likes.
The singer regularly performs covers on the platform and recently remade their hit Lighters (The One) for Pride Month.
In May, Gabz announced that they were non-binary, using pronouns they/their, and were also changing their name to Ashley, previously Gabrielle.
In a candid Instagram post, the artist shared: “I wanna reintroduce myself… I’m Ashley
(Gabz is still my artist name dw) ~ I’ve always hated my full name as it was always too feminine.
“If u didn’t know I’m nonbinary & this journey has been really confusing for me & I’m sure for some of u too.
“You can still call me Gabz that is gonna stay my ‘stage/artist name’ but I’ve decided being nonbinary is no longer going to be a burden for me or hold me back or keep me hiding. I wanna be myself 100% authentically always!
Adding: “Hopefully in the future loads of kids like me won’t have to grow up so confused not fitting any labels.
“Gonna be way more open with you all
sending love, Ashley/Gabz (they/them)” (sic).
Gabz originally wowed Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams with their hit The One aged 14.
Following her performance Simon, 62, said: “I absolutely loved that, really good. I think that’s a good little song, great chorus.
“Produced properly, you may have something there.”
The young star made it through to the final after the judges unanimously voted for them to advance over Irish singers Jack and Cormac.
Gabz came seventh after performing a mash-up of another original song titled Just Lie There and The One.
After BGT, Gabz released their debut single Lighters (The One), which peaked at number 6 on the UK Singles Chart.
They also released three more singles, Just Lie There, Change the Game and Holiday in Brazil, which was released ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
