Call The Midwife fans ‘devastated’ after spotting grim clue beloved character will be killed off

CALL The Midwife fans have been left “devastated” after spotting a grim detail that could see a beloved character killed off.

At the start of the episode on Sunday night, long-running character Sister Monica Joan – played by Judy Parfitt – was left frightened by a wayward bird.

Sister Monica hinted the bird could bring the “Grim Reaper”

Sister Monica Joan was left panicking as she came face to face with a black raven that had found its way into the piano room of Nunnatus House.

She was found by the rest of the cast trying to encourage the bird to leave, as she panicked that its presence meant “bad news” was coming.

“There must be someone amongst us about to meet our maker,” Sister Monica declared as Fred Buckle was called to remove the raven.

“A bird indoors, the Grim Reaper must have someone in his sights,” the caretaker – played by Cliff Parisi – chimed in as he walked into the room.

It left fans worried that it meant one of the show’s much-loved characters, particularly Monica, might face being killed off.

“I think Monica Joan is going to die,” one viewer kicked off the debate on Twitter, as a second wrote: “No, we are not losing Sister Monica Joan.”

“Darn, who are we going to lose?” a third wondered, as a fourth threatened: “Nothing better happen to Sister Monica Joan.”

Earlier this year, Monica Joan actress Judy, 86, shocked fans after photos resurfaced from earlier on in her acting career.

The star – who has been a regular face on Call The Midwife since 2012 – started her career in the 60s and 70s on TV show Public Eye.

In one image, Judy appears as a fresh-faced 31-year-old in 1966, showcasing her long, luscious brown hair and beaming smile.

Before appearing on Call the Midwife, Judy had forged a very successful on-screen career, starring also in Murder She Wrote and Midsomer Murders.

While Call The Midwife continues to be a hugely popular series, Judy has previously opened up on her belief that the newest series will be the last.

Speaking to Radio Times previously about her role as the kindhearted Sister, she said: “I think it’ll probably end after the next series. I imagine that’s what they’re thinking of doing.

“Mind you, there’s not an awful lot on the BBC compared to what there used to be.”
