He surprised fans with a cameo appearance in the hit series Waterloo Road
He first arrived as the town vicar in Poplar in the third instalment of Call The Midwife and worked closely alongside both the nurses and nuns in Nonnatus House.
His character enjoyed a romance with Trixie Franklin – played by Helen George – before they broke off their engagement during the fourth series.
The reverend started a new relationship with Nurse Barbara Gilbert – played by Charlotte Ritchie – before the character’s tied the know at the end of the sixth series.
He eventually left the show in 2018 after Nurse Barbara tragically died of sepsis and his character left to start a new life in Papua New Guinea.
But now Jack has a new role as Lenny Sampson in the Rochdale-based drama, an ex-convict who is brought into the school as part of an anti knife-crime initiative.
On Waterloo Road, the character introduced himself as: “Lenny Sampson, Wythenshawe boy, 11 years total at Her Majesty’s pleasure. I’ve spent the last decade of my life devoting my time to giving talks and workshops with the most at-risk kids.”
The actor will make appearances in episodes five and six of the new series that will air on June 13 and June 20 respectively on BBC One.
Aside from the show he is also known for his roles in other popular shows such as Broadchurch, Sister Boniface Mysteries, McDonald & Dodds, as well as Casualty.
The former Call The Midwife star also lives with and is happily in a relationship with his former co-star Helen George.
The pair met on the set in 2016 whilst filming in South Africa and they share two young daughters, Wren Ivy, five and Lark, one.
