Can Love Island stars get drunk in the villa?

LOVE Island is throwing open the doors to its villa again, as a group of sexy singletons have the summer of their lives.

But what the new batch of Islanders may not realise, there are certain rules in place when it comes to drinking.

Love Island stars have their alcohol intake restricted

Can Love Island stars get drunk in the villa?

Love Island stars aren’t given enough booze to get drunk, in fact producers limit their intake in the villa.

The Islanders are only allowed one to two drinks per night, which is given to them by the show’s bosses.

All food and drink is bought by the show, so contestants are monitored closely.

But Love Island 2019 winner Amber Gill reckons the rule was scrapped in 2021 when she tweeted.: “They are giving these islanders more than two drinks I swear!”

What have previous Love Island stars said about it?

Love Island 2018 star Laura Anderson previously talked about the limited booze in the villa.

Speaking to The Mirror, she sad there were occasionally one or two bottles of prosecco between them, “but you’d be lucky to get half a glass of that!”

Not only that, but producers would watch them carefully to ensure no one stole a sip of someone else’s drink.

Liana Isadora Van-Riel, who was on the 2016 show, echoed this, and told The Celeb Report Online: “You’re allowed one or two drinks a night, either wine or beer, no spirits.”

She mentioned that on most nights people just drink one or just have a cup of tea.

However on a “big night” like eviction night contestants will typically have two drinks.

Eyal Booker, who starred in season four, corroborated this claim.

Speaking about alcohol consumption in conversation with Closer, he said: “It was very, very limited. Max two glasses of wine a night and that’s max!”

Can Love Island stars smoke in the villa?

Following a huge wave of complaints surrounding the constant smoking in the villa after the series in 2017, ITV producers cracked down from season four in 2018.

Bosses installed a ban on smoking fags inside the villa, with those wishing to light up having to exit the house and go to a designated smoking area.

Only one islander is able to head to the smoking shelter at a time, in a bid to stop so many of the contestants taking up a smoking habit due to the social element.

Back on the 2016 series they were all allowed a 20-pack a day, and Liana agrees with claims that they smoked too much.

She said: “I only social smoked before the show and when I went in I was smoking 15 a day.”

It has been confirmed that there is a smoking area for the 2022 series of Love Island.

During a Q&A with fans on Reddit, executive producer Mike Spencer revealed: “We do have an off camera area for smokers although I have to say most people don’t tend to smoke any more!”
