Back in the spotlight
Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden, who was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in May, has received a glamorous makeover as she reunites with her co-stars for the upcoming series. The professional dancer has been undergoing treatment and recently battled sepsis, but she was thrilled to be back in the thick of the Strictly bubble.
Grateful for support
Taking to social media, Amy expressed her gratitude to her Strictly family for their support. She shared, "So grateful for my @bbcstrictly family, yesterday was just what I needed ahead of today. I’ve felt part of the whole journey so far! I’ve seen all the group numbers and the process by videos, then again watching yesterday and WOW honestly the best yet!" Although she admits it's difficult not being able to perform, she is proud to be part of such a talented team.
Amy's comeback
Amy also mentioned how much she enjoyed being made glamorous by the hair and make-up team and donning a sparkly dress from the wardrobe. She said, "feeling like Amy again being at my favourite place! So very grateful!" Despite her ongoing treatment, Amy is looking forward to dancing on that Strictly floor once again.
Sepsis scare
Just last week, Amy was rushed to intensive care after contracting sepsis. The infection had a severe impact on her body, causing her blood pressure to dangerously drop. Although she doesn't remember much of her time in hospital, Amy acknowledged that her Crohn's disease makes her more susceptible to infections. She described the situation as life-threatening and was grateful for the quick action of doctors and nurses.
Continuing the fight
Amy is now ready to face her third round of chemotherapy. She remains hopeful that this time around there won't be any hospital admissions or scares. With her recent reunion with her Strictly co-stars and the progress she's making in treatment, Amy is determined to come back stronger and return to the dance floor.
