Jonathan Broom-Edwards swims to safety

Olympian athlete Fatima Whitbread, 61, and British Paralympian Jonathan Broom-Edwards, 34, have revealed the filmed in the Middle East was so tough both sustained injuries.

Jonathan had “a couple of ribs broken” towards the end of the gruelling week, telling The Celeb Report: “The thing is if you’ve got no evidence of lung puncture, it’s pretty much like you are good to go. So I think I was in for a day and a half with my ribs. I had to try and manage it, but yeah just carried on.”

Fatima – who is the oldest contestant on this series – explained how her injury happened when the new SAS: Who Dares Wins recruits were told to jump out of a helicopter into the ocean on the first day.

big break

Celeb SAS: Who Dares Wins' Curtis Pritchard broke bone 2 DAYS before show

She said: “I was with Maisie (Smith). We got very close to the edge of the helicopter, and they said don’t drop the bag go too soon because you’ll have to swim miles to get it.

“But what they didn’t say was that you should let the bag go out a little bit, because I didn’t, and it bounced on the water because it was buoyant. There was a little metal bit and it sheared right up my left breast. It was agony.”

People will wonder if the celebrities will get any special treatment.

But viewers are promised no allowances or acceptions are made for moaning and self pitying stars.

Fatima also refused to tell show medics or chief instructor Rudy Reyes about her increasing pain and eventually she was forced to lean on her fellow recruits for help.

She said: “I just kept my mouth shut. I just felt like I had done something, but I wasn’t sure. I knew then as the days went by it was definitely serious because I couldn’t move, lay down, or get up. I couldn’t get my backpack on.

“I was asking as the days went by more and more for everyone to help get my backpack on my shoulders.

“I thought, ‘I’m not going to say anything’. Sports people are very prone to carrying on with injuries. There is a fine line between healthy or injured, but what you do is you learn to work through those injuries, and you don’t share that with anybody.”

The current series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins is the longest ever, with seven one-hour episodes airing on Channel 4.
