Despite an intensive promotional campaign, Murder Island won’t be returning

Despite an intensive promotional campaign for Murder Island, The Celeb Report can reveal the show won’t be returning.

Its first series aired in 2021 and saw members of the public become amateur detectives and try to solve a murder.

They were brought to a remote island in order to piece together who was responsible for the fictional crime, written by novelist Ian Rankin.

Each player was watched by top senior investigating officers, who were on hand to pick out any errors as they happen and offer their expertise.

The fake dead woman was called Charly Hendricks who had made a number of enemies and had a romantic relationship with the local shopkeeper.

C4 had also developed an immersive mobile experience for the show in which viewers at home could get involved.

A show insider told The Celeb Report: “Channel 4 are proud of the production values with Murder Island but have decided the investigation is over.”

When contacted, a spokesperson for the broadcaster said: “Murder Island was a bold and creative programme that found an engaged audience who were hooked right until the end.

“Our commissioning strategy is to continue to develop new formats and exciting ideas.”

The show faced blacklash from viewers during its broadcast, which coincided with former Met Police officer Wayne Couzens fighting his life-long murder conviction for the kidnap and killing of Sarah Everard.

Murder Island’s axe comes after Channel 4 bosses gave the green light for another series of Danny Dyer‘s Scared of the Dark.

The show became a huge success for the broadcaster and was a hit with viewers at home.

The social experiment saw a collection of celebs face their fear of darkness by living in it for an entire week.
