Chaos at ITV as host pulls out minutes before live show

ITV was thrown into chaos this morning as Lorraine Kelly pulled out of hosting her show with illness at the last minute.

Bosses scrambled to bring in newsreader and Good Morning Britain star Ranvir Singh at short notice to fill the gap and keep the show on air.

Ranvir rushed in to save the day

GMB host Kate Garraway informed viewers of the line-up change and praised Ranvir for rushing in to save the day.

She said: “I think in almost a first in her 30 year plus history on breakfast TV she’s gone home. She’s not well. She’s got a bug. We’re wishing you very well, Lorraine.

“Ranvir is to the rescue though. She’s on her way in to get herself ready for the show.”

She added: “It’s a good job Ranvir didn’t say no to coming in and got herself out of bed, otherwise we wouldn’t have a show.”

Little more than an hour after getting the call to come in, Ranvir appeared in the studio looking bright-eyed in a tiger-striped top.

Yesterday Lorraine dressed in a stylish Karen Millen outfit and appeared in fine spirits when she interviewed Jemima Khan about her debut rom-com.

And she teased a fun chat with pop superstar Pink that will be screened later this morning.

But it will be Ranvir, who hosted Good Morning Britain yesterday with Ed Balls while Susanna Reid is in Ukraine, who will oversee the action.

Susanna has been broadcasting live from Kyiv this week as the ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe reaches its first anniversary.

On Monday, she said of the Ukrainian people’s resilience: “There doesn’t seem to be any weakening in their resolve at all. I spoke to a number of people during the day yesterday and everyone is resilient.

“They might be be broken in part by what they’ve been through, but they’re not destroyed. They’re bouncing back. They have faith in their president. We saw him standing in the hole created by a missile that destroyed the middle part of a block of flats in Borodyanka. He stood there where families had been killed and the people feel he is symbolic to them. He is keeping them going. He is there resilient leader. They’re not weakening at all.”

Back in the London studio, former politician Ed and Ranvir interviewed the young Ukrainian family that Ed and his Shadow Home Secretary wife Yvette Cooper have housed.
