Charlotte Hawkins tells Piers Morgan ‘well done’ as GMB hosts congratulate former host for historic Sun deal

THE hosts of Good Morning Britain today congratulated Piers Morgan on his historic Sun deal after he left the show earlier this year.

The 56-year-old TV star is coming back to where he started his career to present a new global TV show and be a columnist for The Celeb Report.

And this morning his old colleagues joked the “drinks would be on him” as they rallied around to wish him all the best in his new venture.

Reading The Celeb Report’s front page this morning, Charlotte Hawkins said: “The Celeb Report’s front page features Piers Morgan toasting his new job after he’s confirmed he will host a global TV show on a new channel to be launched by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, well done to him.”

Meanwhile Showbiz presented Richard Arnold went on to joke: “My ears, my eyes!

“A global deal, that will see him host a daily show that will air in the US the UK and Australia – just when we were going to have a whip round for him as well to make sure he could put a bird on the table for Christmas.

“Good on ya buddy.”

The Celeb Report’s Editor-in-Chief Victoria Newton has hailed the move a “bigger comeback than Ronaldo”.

And Piers wrote on Twitter: “I’ve gone home. Great to be rejoining Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation after 28 years.

“The place I started my media career, with the boss who gave me my first big break. We’re going to have a lot of fun….”

Reacting to the news, his former co-host Susanna Reid wrote: “Congratulations @piersmorgan” followed by a clapping hands emoji.”

Piers’ return to Britain’s No1 newspaper — where he first found fame — will see him writing no-holds-barred columns for us as well as the New York Post.

The 56-year-old presenter will also host a new show which will air on talkTV in the UK, FOX Nation for US audiences, and Sky News Australia.

Speaking about his career move, Piers said: “I’m thrilled to be returning to News Corp, which is where I began my media career more than 30 years ago.

“Rupert Murdoch has been a constant and fearless champion of free speech and we are going to be building something new and very exciting together.

“I want my global show to be a fearless forum for lively debate and agenda-setting interviews, and a place that celebrates the right of everyone to have an opinion, and for those opinions to be vigorously examined and challenged.

“I’m also delighted to become a columnist for The Celeb Report and the New York Post, two brilliantly successful and popular newspaper brands.

“I’m going home and we’re going to have some fun.”
